Born in Scotland, but raised in the Middle East Lyndsay Hyslop has had an expanded view of the world. Educated at boarding school in England she was a seasoned traveller at an early age. Her adult life has been spent travelling and living in Africa, where she experianced the high levels of creativity of the Kikuyu and Masai tribes of Kenya, the Ndebele and Zulus of Zimbabwe and South Africa, the San bushmen of the Kalahari where each individual has an awareness of a need to adorn and communicate through wearing their jewellery.
Having qualified and worked as an optometrist her passion is for creating sensual jewellery. Her extensive travels and experiances have shown her that we are ALL part of a tribe whether it is a country, family or sex. We all strive to belong. Jewellery adornment plays an essential part in our identification and being acknowledged and accepted by our tribe and the world. Her experiance with indigenous tribes in Africa is that their personal adornment is a form of communication within their culture showing their integrity and inner strength in their society. Their creativity and sense of colour reflects their identity within the tribe and a self confidence that is portrayed to the world outside their 'tribe'. Their craft is woven within the spirit world, with myth and story and what is created is a symbolic adornment worn against the skin.
It is Lyndsay's wish that each piece of her jewellery that is taken into the tribe, whatever that tribe is, would enable them to see their own value and help them step out into the world.
Each piece has an energy, a vibration, that compliments and enhances the wearer, so that it becomes an honoured piece of adornment that would e passed from one hand to another.
Lyndsay's work is varied from delicate feminine gems to bold tribal amulets. Her traditional rosaries and Eastern rosaries (malas) are beautiful alluring talismans whether they are worn against the skin or carried in the hand.
Her mixing of elemental shapes, vibrant colours and, intricate carvings enables her to create modern inspired jewellery, where she explores the beauty of nature and balance of form.
Lyndsay now incorporates beautiful Deeksha (Oneness blessing) energy into all her jewellery.
